    American Black Walnut is native to the eastern regions of North America. The sapwood is a creamy-white colour, with the heartwood ranging from golden to rich chocolate brown, with occasional dark streaks of purplish-brown. This timber is an exceptional cabinet and furniture making timber due to its attractive appearance.

    Native to the eastern United States, American Cherry has a heartwood ranging from a dark, rich red to a reddish-brown, while the sapwood is creamy-white. Often sourced for high-end interior applications, American cherry has good workability, being easy to machine, nail and glue – it also stains and polishes to a smooth finish, highlighting its rich colouring.

    AMERICAN ROCK MAPLE

    From the tree that produces maple syrup, American Rock Maple has a heartwood that’s a pale yellow brown with sapwood that can be hard to distinguish. Grain is very fine and sometimes exhibits birds-eye figure and fiddle back. Can be difficult to work as it is hard with sudden changes in grain direction. It does rout and saw quite well but attention is required in areas of rough grain.

    American White Ash heartwood ranges in colour from a creamy white to a light brown with a wide light band of sapwood, and the grain presents as straight, course and slightly open. American White ash produces good results with hand or machine tools. Responds well to steam bending, glues, stains, and finishes well.

    American White oak is a hard, heavy wood common throughout the eastern United States. With a light-coloured sapwood and a light to dark brown heartwood, White oak is mostly straight grained with a medium to coarse texture and large distinctive growth rings.     BLACKBUTT

    Blackbutt is a versatile timber and is used for structural, exterior and interior applications. The heartwood ranges from golden yellow to pale brown, although occasionally a pinkish colour may be present.     DARK RED MERANTI

     

    Dark Red Meranti is typically a dark reddish or purplish brown, commonly with white resin streaks present. Reported as moderately- durable to non-durable in regard to decay resistance, but is susceptible to insect attack. Typically easy to work, glues, stains, and finishes well.

    European Oak (also known as French Oak or English Oak) has a heartwood that’s pale yellow-brown, darkening with exposure to outdoor elements. Sapwood appears creamy and distinctive, while the texture is coarse and uneven. This durable timber has excellent stability, glues well, and has good resistance to splitting during nailing and screwing.

    Made with a combination of Victorian Ash and a water-based H3 treatment, Iron Ash holds on well to paint or stain, is generally easy to work with, has a straight profile and grips a solid nail with strength.     Prized for its strength and durability, Red Iron Bark is a preferred structural timber due to its long-term performance in weather exposed structural applications. Red Iron Bark heartwood is a deep dark red to red-brown and its sapwood is a distinctive pale yellow. The timber has a fine, even texture with an interlocked grain.     KAPUR

     

    Kapur is a large South East Asian hardwood, lustrous with sapwood that ranges from almost white to light yellowish-brown in colour, while the heartwood is red to reddish-brown. Kapur is used for general construction as an internal and external finishing material. The timber is also highly prized for external joinery, in particular for door and window sills, as it is resistant to decay when fully exposed to the weather.

    Merbau has a sapwood that is well defined and pale yellow in colour. The heartwood is yellowish to orange-brown when fresh cut, weathering to brown or dark red brown. The grain is interlocked and the texture is coarse but even. Growth rings are distinct.

    The Silvertop Ash heartwood is brown, sometimes pinkish in colour with a sapwood that is narrow in appearance. Gum veins, markings from pinhole borers and pencil streaks also distinguish the appearance of Silvertop Ash.     TASMANIAN BLACKWOOD

    Tasmanian Blackwood is the perfect timber for fine furniture, joinery or a feature floor. The timber’s characteristics often show colours ranging from light golden-brown to deep brown with the occasional black streak. The grain is usually straight but sometimes wavy, producing a fiddleback figure. Tasmanian Blackwood is also known as Blackwood or Black Wattle.

    Victorian Ash has a heartwood that ranges from pale pink to yellowish brown, with a sapwood that is often indistinguishable in colour. To ensure good quality boards, logs are quarter-cut, which provides excellent dimensional stability.
